Rise and Shine: The Early Bird Gets the Cool Air

As a technician at McDaniel Furnace & Sheet Metal, my day starts bright and early. I’m up at 6 AM, ready to tackle the challenging world of HVAC installation and maintenance. After a quick breakfast and coffee, I’m out the door by 7 AM, heading to our first appointment of the day.

Morning: Air Conditioning Installation

Our first stop is a new home construction site where we’re installing a state-of-the-art air conditioning system. This is one of my favorite parts of the job – ensuring that families will be comfortable in their new homes for years to come. The installation process involves:

• Assessing the home’s layout and cooling needs
• Positioning the outdoor unit
• Installing ductwork and vents
• Connecting the indoor and outdoor units
• Testing the system for optimal performance

By lunchtime, we’ve made significant progress on the installation, and the homeowners are excited about their soon-to-be-cool living space.

Afternoon: HVAC Maintenance and Repairs

After a quick lunch break, it’s time to switch gears. Our afternoon is filled with maintenance calls and minor repairs. We visit several homes, performing routine checks on existing HVAC systems and addressing any issues we find. This could include:

• Cleaning or replacing air filters
• Checking refrigerant levels
• Inspecting electrical connections
• Lubricating moving parts
• Addressing unusual noises or inefficiencies

One of our calls involves an AC repair for a family whose system stopped working during a heatwave. It’s rewarding to see their relief when we get their cool air flowing again.

Evening: Wrapping Up and Planning Ahead

As the day winds down, we head back to the McDaniel Furnace & Sheet Metal office. I spend some time completing paperwork, ordering necessary parts for upcoming jobs, and discussing the next day’s schedule with my team.

Before heading home, I take a moment to reflect on the day’s accomplishments. Whether it’s a new installation or a simple repair, knowing that we’ve helped improve people’s comfort and quality of life makes all the hard work worthwhile.
